So many big stars have passed away in the last couple of years, and that didn't skip jazz, prog and fusion. It seems that the big names are leaving us without replacement. Or is there? Can artists ever become as big as the legends of the past, at the current state of things? Discuss. ... See MoreSee Less
What will happen after all the big names in music are gone?
That is one question I, and as it turns out a few others, have been quite occupied with lately. I just discuss my initial thought here, whi...

I am speechless, many of you know of my website Power of Prog. I launched Power of Prog back in 2009 with one thought: bring the best prog has to offer to its audience. In my very succinct way (not); the point to all this is… drum roll please (in 5/4 time of course) - I just found out that we have been awarded this ribbon to post on our website: PowerofProg.com is considered one of the top 100 best music blog sites out there. Okay we are at number 74 But HOLY COW, BATMAN! I want to thank all the people that use the site and my staff that donate their time to making it a great site: Robert Brady, Blake Carpenter, Kim Soli David Pearson and my wife.
My deepest condolences go out to Jonathan Flook, a long time RoSfest supporter and attendee who passed away yesterday due to an automobile accident. Jonathan was a DJ at WLVR at Lehigh University in Bethlehem. He did a prog show on Sunday mornings and helped promote Progressive Rock. We have lost another RoSfester and that saddens me very much. ... See MoreSee Less
This past week has had a rush of hackneyed articles about the supposed death of progressive rock. The article I'm linking here reeks of stereotypes and general ignorance about the genre. I'm glad to know that RosFest is not only keeping prog alive but also helping spread awareness of new artists who are bringing fresh blood to this music. ... See MoreSee Less
Peruvian band FLOR DE LOTO signed for ROSFest 2018!
We are happy to announce, pending permits to be granted by the US government, that Peruvian band Flor de Loto has been signed for ROSFest 2018! They will appear as the third band on Sunday, May 6th.
Progressive rock is alive and well on the South American continent, and one of the most popular progressive rock bands in South America is Flor de Loto from Peru. They have built a steadily growing fan base all over the continent since the appearance of their self-titled debut album in 2005. Since then, their solid presence as a live band for more than a decade and the seven studio albums to their name have cemented their reputation as a high quality band.
Their take on progressive rock is one that resides somewhere in between Jethro Tull and Iron Maiden, incorporating elements from metal, Andean folk music and chamber music into their compositions alongside nods towards hard rock and psychedelic rock. This blend results in a sound and style with a broad appeal: this is a band with fans also from outside of the progressive rock universe.
Alonso Herrera, Alejandro Jarrin, Pablo Alayza, Alvaro Escobar, Pierre Farfán and Gabriel Iwasaki are members of a band that has a reputation as a quality act on all levels. We are eagerly looking forward to being able to experience one of the top progressive rock bands from the South American continent performing live at ROSfest 2018.
